Elephant Shoes and Happy Slapping movie posters

OMBF’s first feature film was a romantic comedy entitled ELEPHANT SHOES, which proved to be the darling of the film festival circuit, selling out screenings, and winning awards worldwide. The romantic comedy was described as a sleeper hit, a festival crowd-pleaser, and inspirational. OMBF successfully licensed ELEPHANT SHOES to Lionsgate (formerly eOne / Alliance Atlantis) making more than 20 times its money back.

Its second feature film HAPPY SLAPPING, was the world’s first feature film shot entirely on smartphones. The film made international headlines during its World Premiere at the Montreal World Film Festival, most notably being covered by The Hollywood Reporter, Playback, National Post, and the Journal de Montréal. Telefilm Canada is a producing partner.

OMBF is well-positioned to effectively sell market-driven products to domestic and international markets. Point of fact, Christos Sourligas has worked over 25 years as a television sales & acquisitions executive for various large to medium-sized production companies. He regularly attends national and international sales conferences and markets.

MY BIG FAT GREEK COOKBOOK
Filmmaker and Television Producer, Christos Sourligas, Creates BESTSELLING Cookbook Based on his Mama’s Greek Food Recipes!

My Big Fat Greek Cookbook beauty shot stack

Who doesn’t love Greek food? Years ago, I was invited to Greece to write an article about its cuisine and I had the privilege to stay with a local Greek family. That family’s sense of generosity and pride came rushing back to me when I read Christos’s family recipes and memories.
— Ricardo Larrivée, chef and owner of Cafe Ricardo, host of Ricardo and Friends (Food Network), and author of Vegetables First

MY BIG FAT GREEK COOKBOOK is a comprehensive, contemporary overview of Greek food, recipes, and family culture as documented by the son of a Greek immigrant as his mother, Evdokia Antginas, neared the end of her life.

I am not a famous cook nor a celebrity chef. This cookbook was born out of necessity, after my mother was given 12-18 months to live by her doctors. I felt the need to honor this woman while she was still alive by preserving her priceless recipes so that generations to come could savor her life’s flavors. Her recipes are what I call legit rustic mountain village peasant food. My family is from Arcadia, Greece; a simple and magical place idealized by Romantic poets like Lord Byron, Shelley, Keats. Nature. Pasture. Utopia. Where the wilderness is unspoiled and the mountainous landscape so vast, it forces you to connect with the bounty that is… life. These rural mountain recipes are very different from the typical fare found in coastal Greek cookbooks. Some examples of uncommon recipes: Stewed Okra (bamies laderes), Rabbit Stew (kouneli stifado), Jellied Tripe Soup (pikti patsa), Boiled Goat (gida vrasti), and Quince Spoon Sweet (glyko kydoni).

The cookbook was co-authored by my mother… She survived World War II and the devastating Greek Civil War, then immigrated to Canada in the mid-1960’s. This book is my love letter to her for all the sacrifices she made to give us the life she never had. I am so blessed to have my mother continue to be an incredible presence in my life, and I want to share her inspirational energy and wisdom with the world, via the food that means so much to her.

MY BIG FAT GREEK COOKBOOK is more than just a list of ingredients or series of steps, of course. It’s filled with traditional meals, memories, and tidbits of information that draw family and friends to Greek tables time and again. It has everything from iconic egg-lemon sauce to rich soups, sweet pies, and traditional delicacies like rabbit stew and octopus with pasta, accompanied by tales of Greek history and insight into cultural nuances. With stunning photographs (which Christos took!) throughout, this book is a peek into a Greek family that has achieved what so many of us yearn for: a fuller, more meaningful, and joyful life, lived simply and nourished on real, delicious meals made with love.

PRAISE FOR MY BIG FAT GREEK COOKBOOK

“Bravo, Christos. Documenting the treasure trove of recipes in a Greek kitchen isn’t easy, but it’s well worth the effort. I can’t wait to pull up a chair and join the feast!
— Marisa Churchill, Top Chef competitor and author of Sweet & Skinny

“Christos has captured the essence of Greek home cooking through this collection of his mother’s recipes. An easy-to-read cookbook, emphasizing the simplistic beauty of Greek cuisine.”
— Peter Minaki, author of The Big Book of Mediterranean Recipes

“This cookbook is as much about love as it is about food. A love for family, a love for Greek food, and most of all, a love for the author’s mother, who expressed her affection for friends and family through her cooking. Food was her language of love, her recipes preserved for all time in this touching tribute.”
— JB Macatulad, willflyforfood.net

“Christos shows us how to make healthy and nutritious recipes, including plant-based meals, and quite honestly inspires us all to own our culture and heritage. Greek cuisine is such a powerful way of eating and surely this book will transform us all.”
— Maria Koutsogiannis, author of Mindful Vegan Meals, food stylist, photographer and writer for FoodByMaria

“The recipes in this cookbook not only represent some of the tastiest culinary dishes you will ever eat, but also the love and the passion, and the survival of what our parents went through to create a better life for us all.”
— Angelo Tsarouchas, comedian, actor, lover of food

THE ISLAND OF ZOE
#1 Bestselling Cookbook Author and Award-Winning Filmmaker, Christos Sourligas, releases a Romance Fantasy Novel Co-penned with Athens-based and published author, Dino Hajiyorgi

The Island of Zoe book beauty shot

A young Greek American woman travels to the island of Petra bearing precious cargo: her late grandmother’s body, to be buried on the land where the old woman spent her youth. But when Zoe arrives on Petra, she finds that her grandmother, Maria, has left her an opulent villa and old family secrets hidden in the mystery of the island.

Zoe notices how spry and fit the island’s elderly residents are. In fact, no one has miraculously died in over seventy years, and time actually stands still on Petra. After Stefanos, a dapper older gentleman, ends his life the night of Grandma’s funeral, Zoe learns that Stefanos and her grandmother were lovers and realizes there’s much more to the island than meets the eye.

Zoe sets out to discover the island and uncovers strange happenings: there isn’t a single working clock or telephone, rich migrants from all over the world live clandestinely in the hills, the island is on permanent lock-down by the Greek Navy, and the main residents are subjected to repeated medical tests. Manos, the raki-loving bon vivant who runs the local general store, hints that the islanders are paying a price for what they did to Grandma Maria and Stefanos but refuses to reveal more.

Hoping to sell her grandmother’s house and use the money to help her troubled retail business back in America, Zoe inadvertently falls for the local priest’s son, Paris, who will soon be a priest in his own right. As romantic tension mounts between them, he admits his reluctance to become a priest. Believing Zoe is a threat to their immortality, several islanders gang up on Zoe and try to expel her from Petra when more truths come to light…
